In a recent string of incidents in Hampton, local authorities have apprehended 22-year-old Yorktown resident Kenneth Maddox, Jr., linking him to a pair of carjackings that took place on November 25, 2023.
Early in the morning, around 3:36 a.m., Hampton’s Public Safety Communications was alerted to a carjacking in the 3300 block of Commander Shepard Boulevard. The investigation uncovered that Maddox allegedly confronted a 37-year-old Hampton man, brandished a gun, and forcefully took his vehicle. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned in the 1600 block of Hardy Cash Drive.
A second incident was reported just hours later, at around 5:05 a.m., this time in the 200 block of Marcella Road. Here, Maddox is suspected of approaching another local, a 29-year-old man, in his car. After displaying a firearm, a scuffle ensued when the victim tried to exit his vehicle. The victim managed to retrieve his own firearm and shot at Maddox, who nevertheless escaped with the vehicle. This car was later located in the 2000 block of North Armistead Avenue.
Shortly thereafter, at about 5:14 a.m., a call was made regarding a gunshot victim at the Sentara CarePlex on Coliseum Drive. It was here that Maddox, suffering from life-threatening injuries, was identified and treated.
Maddox now faces serious charges, including two counts of carjacking and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
