VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach police are asking for the public’s help in identifying skeletal remains discovered near the city’s outlet shopping district earlier this month.
According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, the remains were found near the 1600 block of Premium Outlets Boulevard. Investigators announced the case publicly on May 13 as detectives continue efforts to determine the identity of the deceased person and notify next of kin.
Police said foul play is not currently suspected, though the investigation remains active.
Detectives are urging anyone who may recognize the individual from photographs released by investigators, or anyone with information that could help identify the person, to come forward.
The area near Premium Outlets Boulevard has seen significant commercial growth in recent years, with heavy traffic from shoppers, employees, and nearby travelers. Investigators have not said how long the remains may have been in the area before being discovered.
Cases involving unidentified remains can often take months or longer to resolve, especially when investigators are relying on public assistance, forensic analysis, or missing persons reports to establish an identity.
The investigation is being handled by the Virginia Beach Police Department Detective Bureau.
Anyone with information is asked to contact VBPD at 757-385-4101.
