VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach police are asking additional victims and witnesses to come forward as detectives continue investigating a public indecency case involving incidents reported in busy shopping center parking lots across the city.
According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, 37-year-old Walter Maiden of Virginia Beach has been arrested and charged with two counts of indecent exposure and two counts of obscene sexual display.
Investigators say officers have already identified and interviewed several victims, but they believe additional people may have witnessed similar incidents and have not yet contacted police.
Authorities said the suspect was known to frequent heavily traveled commercial areas throughout Virginia Beach, including parking lots near Target, TJ Maxx, and the Hilltop Shopping area.
Police described the suspect vehicle as a light gray Volkswagen Tiguan with Virginia license plates.
The investigation is being handled by the department’s Second Precinct. Detectives have not released details about how long the alleged incidents may have been occurring or whether additional charges could be filed.
The case has raised concerns among shoppers and employees who frequent the city’s large retail centers, particularly as shopping areas become increasingly crowded during the spring and summer months. Police often rely heavily on surveillance footage and witness statements in investigations involving incidents in commercial parking lots.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Virginia Beach Police Department at 757-385-2700.
