The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) conducted two traffic safety checkpoints on February 8, 2025, aiming to deter impaired driving and ensure vehicles were properly licensed, inspected, and registered. The effort, led by the VBPD Traffic Safety Unit, resulted in 31 summonses and two arrests for driving under the influence.
One checkpoint, set up in the 4400 block of Bonney Road, turned into a pursuit when an approaching vehicle made an illegal U-turn to avoid the stop. A VBPD officer initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled. After canvassing the area, officers arrested 34-year-old Earl Allen of Virginia Beach.
Allen now faces several charges, including:
- Felony Eluding
- Reckless Driving
- Possession of Ammunition as a Convicted Felon
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
- Obstruction of Justice
- Expired Registration
- Illegal Window Tint
VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate praised the officers involved, saying, “Targeted and aggressive traffic enforcement helps keep our roads safe for vehicles and pedestrians.”
These checkpoints are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and enhance road safety across Virginia Beach.
