The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) wrapped up its December 2024 “traffic blitz,” a targeted enforcement effort aimed at curbing dangerous driving and reducing crashes across the city. The month-long initiative focused on high-risk areas flagged by crash data and community concerns.
The results were notable:
- 337 traffic stops
- 390 summonses issued
- 5 DUI arrests
- 2 arrests on outstanding warrants
- Illegal drugs intercepted
- A stolen firearm recovered
“This initiative isn’t just about issuing tickets,” said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate. “It’s about making Virginia Beach safer—on the roads and in our neighborhoods. Every traffic stop is an opportunity to remove dangerous drivers and, as we’ve seen, stop crimes before they escalate.”
The Traffic Safety Unit concentrated efforts in all four city precincts, responding to long-standing concerns about speeding, distracted driving, and other high-risk behaviors. VBPD emphasized that these operations are as much about prevention as enforcement.
Residents can expect to see similar initiatives throughout 2025 as VBPD works to improve safety on Virginia Beach streets.
