Two Men Charged After Early-Morning Shooting on N Military Highway

Two men have been charged in connection with a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning in Norfolk’s 3500 block of North Military Highway, according to Norfolk Police.

Officers were called to the area just after 1:30 a.m. on November 5 for reports of gunfire. Within ten minutes, dispatchers received word of two walk-in gunshot victims—one at Sentara Norfolk General and another at Sentara Leigh. Both victims had non-life-threatening injuries.

After piecing together the timeline, detectives believe all three incidents are connected.

Brion L. Blount, 33, of Norfolk, was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Blount, who was one of the gunshot victims, remains hospitalized but is expected to recover. Once released, he will be taken to Norfolk City Jail and held without bond.

Jia’Darius E. Poe, 28, of Chesapeake, was also charged—though for a lesser offense. He faces one count of reckless handling of a firearm and was released on a criminal summons.

Police have not released additional information about what led up to the shooting or who fired first. The investigation is ongoing.
