Two Killed in Shooting Near ODU, No Students Involved

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk Police are investigating a shooting near Old Dominion University that left two men dead Monday night.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:40 p.m. in a parking lot near the 1400 block of W 49th Street, close to the university’s Broderick Dining Commons. When they arrived, they found two men suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to the hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

The victims have been identified as Delanio M. Vick, 18, of Norfolk, and Timothy G. Williams Jr., 20, of Norfolk.

Police: No Students Involved

Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot condemned the violence, emphasizing that universities should be safe spaces for students.

“We are deeply saddened by the unnecessary violence that occurred overnight on the campus of Old Dominion University,” Talbot said. “Students attend a university to learn and deserve to feel safe in their environment while doing so.”

Investigators have determined that the shooting involved individuals who were not affiliated with ODU, and no students were involved. However, authorities have not released details on possible suspects or what led to the deadly encounter.

The case remains an active homicide investigation.
