Suspect Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot After Deadly Shooting on Azalea Garden Road

NORFOLK, Va. — What started as a domestic dispute at a Norfolk home Saturday morning quickly turned into a deadly series of shootings that ended with one woman dead and the suspect taking his own life, according to Norfolk Police.

Police say officers were first called around 8:13 a.m. to a home in the 3100 block of Blackwood Avenue after reports of an argument between a stepfather and stepson.

When officers arrived, they found a 45-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound that police described as non-life-threatening. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. By the time officers got there, the suspect had already left the scene.

Less than 30 minutes later, at about 8:38 a.m., officers were called to Fat Philly’s on Azalea Garden Road after reports of another shooting.

Inside the business, police found a woman suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She died at the scene.

Investigators say the suspect had gone to the business and became involved in an altercation with the employee before the shooting happened.

Not long after that, officers were dispatched to another call involving a vehicle left running in the roadway nearby.

When police arrived, they found the suspect inside suffering from what investigators say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shootings rattled parts of Norfolk Saturday morning, especially along the busy Azalea Garden Road corridor where residents and business owners watched a heavy police presence unfold over several hours.

Norfolk Police say the investigation remains active and more details will be released as they become available.
