NORFOLK, Va. — Police say a man from out of state is behind a string of break-ins that have rattled business owners across Norfolk over the past few weeks.

Investigators have charged 54-year-old Eddie F. Young, of New Jersey, in connection with multiple commercial burglaries reported throughout the city. According to Norfolk Police, the incidents began surfacing around March 6, with several businesses reporting forced entry during the early morning hours.

Detectives quickly noticed a pattern.

After reviewing surveillance footage from different locations, police determined the break-ins were connected. That evidence ultimately led to Young’s arrest and charges filed on March 31.

He now faces counts of petit larceny, possession of burglary tools, and breaking and entering.

At this point, Young is not being held in Norfolk. Authorities say he is currently in custody at the Virginia Beach City Jail on unrelated charges.

Police stress the investigation is still ongoing. They are asking anyone who may have information about these incidents to come forward and contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

For many small business owners, the arrests bring some relief—but questions remain about whether more incidents could be tied to the same case as detectives continue their work.
