A Suffolk man is heading to federal prison for 10 years after being caught with two pounds of crystal meth and a firearm, all while being a convicted felon.
Dobeir Quam Rudolph, 35, was sentenced after law enforcement intercepted a suspicious package on September 15, 2023. The parcel, shipped from Murrieta, California, to Norfolk, contained two pounds of crystal methamphetamine. Officers removed most of the meth, leaving just 33 grams, and then repackaged it for a controlled delivery.
Once the package was delivered to the Norfolk address, Rudolph showed up to retrieve it. When officers moved to arrest him, he resisted and tried to flee in his vehicle. During the chase, he was spotted reaching for something in the car and attempting to destroy his cellphone.
After Rudolph was detained, officers found a handgun in the area where he had been reaching. As someone with two prior felony convictions, Rudolph is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
The case highlights the ongoing work of law enforcement to disrupt drug trafficking in Hampton Roads and enforce federal firearms laws.
