GoGreen Farms Owner Stole Identities, Defrauded Investors, and Even Filed Fraudulent Grant from Jail
By Elizabeth Moreno
A Suffolk man was sentenced to over nine years in prison after scamming investors, employees, and even the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) out of more than $1.5 million.
Breon Clemons, 36, ran what appeared to be a legitimate organic produce company—GoGreen Farms and Greenhouses—but was instead using stolen identities and fraudulent loans to fund his operation. Even after being arrested, Clemons continued his fraud, attempting to secure a $1.1 million government grant from behind bars.
Fraud Built on Trust
Clemons first gained the trust of a co-worker, known as P.C., in 2017, pitching his vision for GoGreen Farms. By 2020, P.C. had joined the company and unknowingly became a victim when Clemons used his personal information to secure an unauthorized $25,000 line of credit.
Around the same time, Clemons convinced his neighbor, C.F., to invest $10,000 in the business and later take on an unpaid director role. Under the guise of business formalities, he obtained her driver’s license and Social Security number, then used that information to open multiple credit lines, including a $100,000 loan with TVT Capital. When C.F. found out, Clemons initially denied everything but then handed her credit cards with balances exceeding $100,000.
Fraud Didn’t Stop With Employees
Even after his arrest, Clemons continued scheming. While out on pretrial release, he took $5,000 each from two more investors, promising them absurdly high returns in just one week. After his bond was revoked, he still wasn’t finished—submitting a fraudulent application for a $1.1 million RFSI grant from VDACS while in jail, with the help of a family member.
The Cost of Clemons’ Crimes
The total damage from Clemons’ financial schemes amounted to roughly $1.5 million, with $218,442 in laundered funds. Neither P.C. nor C.F. had any idea their identities were being used to rack up debts in their names.
Clemons will now spend the next nine years and two months in federal prison for his crimes.
