A coordinated law enforcement effort has led to the arrest of 42-year-old Deric Lee Jr., suspected of killing 63-year-old Regina Banks in a shooting on Harbinger Road in Virginia Beach.
Officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Harbinger Rd. just after 10 p.m. on April 30, where they found Banks dead at the scene.
Police quickly identified Lee as the suspect and initiated a traffic pursuit. The chase led into Portsmouth, where Lee crashed and fled on foot, temporarily escaping.
By the next afternoon, thanks to the combined efforts of U.S. Marshals, Virginia State Police, and police departments from Chesapeake and Portsmouth, Lee was arrested. He now faces multiple charges: second-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
“On behalf of the VBPD, I extend my sincerest condolences to Ms. Banks’ family and loved ones,” said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate. “We are incredibly thankful for the assistance that our law enforcement partners provided that helped us apprehend this suspect in less than 24 hours from the offense.”
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Virginia Beach Detective Bureau at (757) 385-4101.
