Norfolk police have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the July shooting death of a Norfolk resident near West 26th Street.
Detectives charged Dontay R. Buford, of Norfolk, with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the Norfolk Police Department. Police said Buford was arrested Sept. 10 and is being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.
The charges stem from a shooting early July 26.
Officers were called to the 200 block of West 25th Street at about 4:05 a.m. after receiving a report of several gunshots in the area.
When police arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Norfolk Fire-Rescue took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as Johnny S. McCloud, 47, of Norfolk.
Authorities have not released additional details about what investigators believe led to the shooting or what evidence resulted in the charges against Buford.
The charges are allegations, and Buford is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
