Hampton police have arrested 35-year-old Matthew Persaud in connection with a maiming incident that took place on October 11, 2024, in the 100 block of Saunders Road.
Around 1:44 p.m., the Hampton Police Division responded to a call reporting a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult woman suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The woman was quickly transported to a nearby hospital by Hampton Fire and Rescue for treatment.
According to the police investigation, the incident began when the victim, visiting her children’s father, attempted to leave his residence. Persaud allegedly started physically assaulti her and then shot her as she tried to escape.
Persaud has been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine further details. Police have not released the name of the victim at this time.
