NORFOLK, Va. — One person has died following a two-vehicle crash Friday morning on North Military Highway in Norfolk, according to the Norfolk Police Department.
The crash happened around 9:06 a.m. in the 2700 block of North Military Highway and involved a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Hyundai Elantra.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicates the Jeep was traveling north on Military Highway when the Hyundai pulled out of a parking lot and entered the Jeep’s path.
Both drivers and a passenger in the Hyundai were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police later confirmed that one of the three people had died. Authorities have not released that person’s name pending notification of next of kin.
The crash has shut down North Military Highway in both directions between Robin Hood Road and Azalea Garden Road while the Norfolk Police Department’s Traffic Unit investigates.
Northbound drivers are being diverted at Robin Hood Road, while southbound traffic is being detoured at Azalea Garden Road.
Police said the investigation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
