NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Police are continuing to investigate a Friday afternoon shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead and another man injured.
Officers were first called around 1:10 p.m. on May 22 to the 7501 block of Tidewater Drive after reports of a man inside a vehicle suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Police identified the victim as Brandon W. Carter Jr., 18, of Norfolk. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A short time later, officers learned that a second victim, a 21-year-old man, had arrived at Sentara Leigh Hospital with a gunshot wound that police said was not life-threatening.
Investigators say the two shootings are connected and determined the gunfire actually happened in the 7800 block of Dallas Street, a residential area just off the busy Tidewater Drive corridor.
By Friday evening, crime scene tape and police activity had drawn attention from neighbors in the area, many of whom said they were shaken by another violent incident involving young people in the city.
Detectives have not released details about a suspect or what may have led up to the shooting.
Norfolk Police say the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
