Norfolk Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault reported earlier this month near the city’s Park Place neighborhood.
According to police, officers were called to the 200 block of West 32nd Street just before 9 p.m. on May 4 after a woman reported she had been assaulted while walking in the 100 block of East 30th Street.
Investigators say the woman was able to break free from the attacker and call police.
The suspect is described as a heavyset man believed to be around 50 years old and between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10. Police said he spoke with slurred speech and at the time had a buzz-cut hairstyle. He was reportedly wearing gray cargo pants and a mint green shirt.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment following the assault.
Detectives continue to investigate and are urging anyone who may recognize the suspect or have information about the case to contact Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip anonymously through the P3Tips mobile app.
The incident has raised concerns for residents in the area surrounding East 30th Street, a mixed residential corridor near Old Dominion University that sees regular foot traffic in the evenings.
