Holmes

Norfolk, VA – Norfolk Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last summer in Ocean View.

The incident took place on August 14th at Community Beach Park, located at 700 E. Ocean View Avenue. Around 6:20 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting. While officers were on their way to the scene, dispatchers alerted them that a man had arrived at a nearby hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Authorities later confirmed the two incidents were connected. The victim, identified as 20-year-old Andrew F. Saafi of Norfolk, tragically died from his injuries at the hospital.

After months of investigation, Norfolk detectives charged Zion K. Holmes, 20, of Virginia Beach, with second-degree murder, robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Police located and arrested Holmes on January 10th in the 1600 block of Brambleton Avenue.

Holmes is now being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.

This case serves as another reminder of the violent crime that has shaken Ocean View in recent years. Community members are hopeful that justice will be served for Saafi’s family.
