Norfolk Police have arrested a 23-year-old man after a string of graffiti vandalism incidents damaged businesses and street signs along the North Military Highway corridor.

Police said they began receiving reports on Sept. 8 that several locations in the 800 to 1100 blocks of North Military Highway had been vandalized with graffiti.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage as part of the investigation and determined that the incidents were connected, according to police.

The damage included four street signs as well as three businesses along the corridor: Chipotle at 1087 N. Military Highway, Lowe’s at 1081 N. Military Highway and Northern Tool at 1120 N. Military Highway.

Police identified the person arrested as Maximilian C. Johnson, 23.

Johnson has been charged with seven counts of vandalism and four counts of damaging public property, according to Norfolk Police. The charges are allegations, and a conviction would require the prosecution to prove them in court.

Johnson was released on bond. Police did not provide additional details about the extent or cost of the damage.
