Norfolk Man Sentenced for Passing Counterfeit Bills in Suffolk and Virginia Beach

A Norfolk man, Tyree Lamar Shoulders, 33, was sentenced to three years and one month in prison for passing counterfeit U.S. currency on multiple occasions in 2023. According to court documents, Shoulders used fake bills at least three times between August and November.

On August 6, 2023, Shoulders used two counterfeit $20 bills to buy gas at a Suffolk station. Later, on August 30, he passed nine counterfeit $50 bills at a Suffolk convenience store, purchasing candy and loading $450 onto a bank card. His attempts continued on November 13, when he used a fake $50 and two counterfeit $10 bills at a gas station in Virginia Beach.

Law enforcement searched Shoulders’ Norfolk residence on December 5, recovering more counterfeit $10, $20, and $50 bills. This was not his first offense. In 2014, Shoulders was convicted of counterfeiting and forging Federal Reserve Notes, serving two years in prison.
