Norfolk Man Sentenced After Drugs and Firearms Found at Multiple Residences

A Norfolk man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison following convictions related to drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession.

According to court records, Maurice Owen Johnson, 38, was sentenced for possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, and possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Investigators conducted several controlled cocaine purchases from Johnson in January 2025. At the time, he was serving a term of federal supervised release stemming from previous felony convictions in the Eastern District of Virginia for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.

In February 2025, Norfolk Police executed searches at three residences connected to Johnson. During those searches, officers recovered 11 firearms, ammunition and magazines, 87.8 grams of cocaine, 17.9 grams of cocaine base, 236.4 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, packaging materials commonly associated with drug distribution, and $313 in cash. Authorities also reported finding Johnson in possession of $4,236.

Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or ammunition. The evidence collected during the investigation led to Johnson’s convictions and the 30-year prison sentence imposed by the court.

The case was investigated by law enforcement agencies in Norfolk and prosecuted in federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia.
