Norfolk Man Pleads Guilty After Drunken 130 MPH Chase Through City Streets

A 25-year-old Norfolk man who led state police on a high-speed chase at more than 130 mph while drunk has pleaded guilty to eluding police and a second DUI offense.

Treyvon Malik Pressley admitted in court Monday that he was under the influence when he sped off from a Virginia State Police trooper on August 17, 2024. The trooper initially clocked him going 100 mph in a 55-mph zone on I-264 westbound near Military Highway around 3:30 a.m. When the officer tried to pull him over, Pressley turned off his headlights and hit speeds over 130 mph as he exited onto Brambleton Avenue and continued into city streets.

His reckless flight ended at Olney Road, after he jumped a median on Tidewater Drive, set off his car’s airbags, and drove into oncoming traffic. Pressley then tried to flee on foot but was caught by the trooper.

The trooper reported that Pressley smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and glassy eyes, and admitted he had been drinking. Pressley’s blood alcohol content registered at 0.12. It was also revealed that he had a prior DUI from 2020, and his license was still suspended from that offense.

Under Virginia law, a second DUI within five years is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail, but the act of fleeing police at high speed turned this case into a felony. Pressley now faces up to six years in prison.

In exchange for pleading guilty to felony eluding and second-offense DUI, prosecutors dropped three misdemeanor charges and a traffic infraction. There is no agreement on sentencing — Judge Robert B. Rigney will make that call on July 25.

“Mr. Pressley endangered himself and others by driving drunk at 100 miles an hour,” said the Commonwealth’s Attorney. “By escalating his dangerous behavior, Mr. Pressley committed a felony — and we are fortunate he did not hurt anyone.”
