A man killed in a Hampton shooting over the weekend has been identified as 21-year-old Caden Jones of Newport News, according to an update released Monday by Hampton Police.
Police say the investigation began around 8:25 a.m. Saturday when emergency dispatchers received reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Algonquin Road in Hampton.
When officers arrived, they found Jones dead inside the home. A second adult male was also found suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital by Hampton Fire and Rescue. Authorities say his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Investigators say the shooting happened after a verbal altercation between the two men escalated into gunfire. Police said everyone involved knew each other and emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Detectives with the Hampton Police Major Crimes Unit are continuing to investigate what led up to the shooting. As of Monday, police have not released information about possible charges or suspects.
