Police in Norfolk are working to piece together what led to a fatal shooting in the middle of the day Tuesday — a case that’s now raising fresh concerns about gun violence in residential neighborhoods.
Officers were called to the 500 block of Walker Avenue just after 1 p.m. on April 21. When they arrived, they found 34-year-old Tony A. Roundtree of Chesapeake with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Right now, investigators aren’t saying much about what led up to the shooting — whether Roundtree was targeted, if there were witnesses, or if a suspect has been identified. What we do know is that this happened in broad daylight, in a neighborhood where people were likely going about their normal routines.
Norfolk Police are asking anyone who may have seen something — even something that seemed minor at the time — to come forward. Tips can be shared through the Crime Line.
As this investigation continues, the case underscores a familiar challenge for law enforcement across Hampton Roads: solving shootings quickly enough to prevent retaliation or further violence, while also building a solid case that holds up in court.
