Norfolk police have arrested a Virginia Beach man they say is connected to a string of vandalism incidents that damaged businesses and other properties across the city.

Corey D. Taylor, 37, faces eight counts of vandalism and three counts of attempted arson, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

The arrest followed several reports of vandalism early Sept. 13 in the 400 block of Monticello Avenue in downtown Norfolk. Officers responding to the area found businesses that had been damaged, police said.

While officers were investigating on Monticello Avenue, another call came in reporting a similar incident in the 800 block of Henry Street.

Police responded there and took Taylor into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Detectives subsequently linked the investigation to other reported incidents between Sept. 6 and Sept. 13, according to the department.

Police identified seven locations affected during the series of incidents:

  • CNY Fertility, 6315 N. Center Drive
  • Lee Nails, 5956 E. Virginia Beach Boulevard
  • Wells Fargo, 440 Monticello Avenue
  • Virginia Arts Festival, 440 Bank Street
  • Saffron Indian Bistro, 420 Monticello Avenue
  • First Calvary Baptist Church, 813 Henry Street
  • Walter E. Hoffman United States Courthouse, 600 Granby Street

The locations stretch across Norfolk and include private businesses, a church and the federal courthouse on Granby Street.

Police have not released details about the extent of the damage, what allegedly occurred during the attempted arsons or what led investigators to connect the separate incidents.

Taylor remains in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.

The charges are allegations, and Taylor is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
