At approximately 9:04 a.m., Hampton Communications received a call for a possible drug overdose that occurred in the 1st block of W. Lamington Road.
Officers responded and located a 43-year-old Hampton man inside a shed, behind the residence who was unconscious but breathing. The male was transported to a local hospital by members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue to be treated.
The preliminary investigation revealed materials were found that are consistent with making methamphetamine as well as a possible explosive device. Residents within close proximity were asked to evacuate the area. The Newport News Police Bomb Squad as well as the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue Hazmat Team are both currently on scene and are assisting the Hampton Police Division with the investigation. The Virginia State Police/Drug Enforcement Agency Division 5 Drug Clandestine Unit has also been notified. There was also an adult female on scene with active warrants on file that was taken into custody.
