Former Boy Scouts Leader from Virginia Beach Pleads Guilty to Child Exploitation Charges

Norfolk, Va. – Andrew Harris Reshefsky, a former Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America from Virginia Beach, pleaded guilty today to charges of receiving images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

According to court documents, the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) began investigating individuals sharing child sexual abuse material using file-sharing technology in June 2023. During the investigation, they identified Reshefsky, 42, as both a distributor and recipient of the abuse material.

On August 17, 2023, VBPD officers executed a search warrant at Reshefsky’s residence, seizing multiple electronic devices. A forensic analysis of Reshefsky’s phone revealed images of the sexual exploitation of children, received via WhatsApp messages in 2021 and 2022. Further examination of his other electronic devices uncovered numerous additional videos and images involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM) spanning several years.

Reshefsky is scheduled to be sentenced on October 18. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of twenty years in prison. Sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine the exact sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
