Chesapeake Man Gets 18 Years for Drug Trafficking, Gun Charges

A 39-year-old man from Chesapeake is headed to federal prison for 18 years after being convicted of drug trafficking and illegal gun possession.

Abdul-Wakeel Khabeer Qaabid, also known as Kenneth Andrew Jordan, was sentenced today following a February 2024 arrest that turned up a sizable drug and cash haul. Chesapeake Police originally tried to arrest Qaabid on unrelated domestic violence charges. But during a traffic stop, he took off, crashed his car, and ran.

Officers found more than five ounces of crack cocaine, marijuana, $25,000 in cash, and two loaded handguns in the wrecked car. A later search of his home uncovered over six kilos of cocaine, packaging supplies, ammunition, and almost $27,000 more in suspected drug money.

Qaabid was finally caught a month later at another home in Chesapeake. That time, police seized nearly $12,000 in cash.

Qaabid’s criminal history includes convictions for attempted capital murder, felony assault and battery, and gun crimes. As a convicted felon, he’s legally barred from owning guns or ammunition.
