55-Year-Old Virginia Beach Man Dies After Shooting; Suspect Arrested

A Virginia Beach man has been charged with voluntary manslaughter following a fatal shooting that left a 55-year-old man dead Sunday night.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received a report of a shooting in the 2100 block of West Kendall Circle at approximately 8:13 p.m. on June 21.

When officers arrived, they found Daryl Sherwood, 55, of Virginia Beach suffering from a gunshot wound. Sherwood was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Homicide Squad assumed control of the investigation and identified Dylan Sherwood, 25, of Virginia Beach, as the suspect.

Police arrested Dylan Sherwood and charged him with one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the relationship between the victim and the suspect. The decision to charge voluntary manslaughter rather than murder suggests detectives and prosecutors may believe the incident occurred under circumstances that differ from a premeditated killing, though authorities have not publicly discussed the facts of the case.

The shooting occurred in a residential area of Virginia Beach, and detectives continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Virginia Beach Police Department Detective Bureau at (757) 385-4101.
