20-Year-Old Charged With Murder in Fatal Arcadia Street Shooting

NORFOLK, Va. — A 20-year-old Norfolk man has been charged with murder in connection with a June shooting on Arcadia Street that left a 19-year-old Virginia Beach woman dead.

Norfolk Police said officers were called to the 3500 block of Arcadia Street at about 2 p.m. on June 27 after receiving a report of a gunshot victim.

When officers arrived, they found Teona A. Purnell, 19, of Virginia Beach, inside a vehicle suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continued through the summer, and Norfolk homicide detectives have now charged Jah-Tez A. Diggs, 20, of Norfolk, with second-degree murder and use of a firearm.

Police arrested Diggs on Sept. 2.

He is being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.

Police did not provide additional details about what led to the shooting or the relationship, if any, between Diggs and Purnell.
